Crazy Sock Day and Dr. Suess

Union Terrace Celebrates Read Across America and Supports the United Way

Union Terrace students enjoyed a day of reading Dr. Suess' Oh the Places You'll Go as part of the school's Read Across America program and combined the day's activities with the school's United Way campaign to make for one crazy, fun day.

As part of St. Luke’s  overall efforts to promote literacy, students celebrated Dr. Seuss Day on February 27 with volunteers from St. Luke's spending part of the day reading to classes.  The theme of this year's event was Foxy Socks to Take Us Places.  Each volunteer read Oh the Places You’ll Go to one classroom and then donate the book to the classroom by signing it and giving it to the teacher.

To make the day even more fun, the school wrapped it' United Way School Campaign around the day's festivities. Throughout the week, students, teachers, staff and administrators made donations to the school's campaign and earned every student the reward of wearing their craziest and most colorful socks, leggings or tights with their school uniform. All volunteers were encouraged to don fun socks for the event. Students were able to spend a few minutes talking with the class about their crazy socks.

In addition to all the fun, all students received a bookmark with the Reader’s Oath which was developed by the National Education Association.
